"When The Nukes Fall"
When talking about WMD's the first thing that comes to mind is naturally a nuke, which is by far the heaviest felt WMD that people have actually experienced and survived. A "Nuke" or Atom Bomb was the baby of J.Robert Oppenheimer who was the lead scientist of the Manhattan project. After Oppenheimer conducted the first Atomic Bomb test on July 16, 1945, in the new mexico desert he stated " Now I Became Death, the Destroyers of Worlds". There really no way to describe how devastating a atom bomb can be, I would like to invite you to try this little game where you can experiment with how destructive a atom bomb can be. http://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/
"There's a Fog rolling in"
"The Power Went Out"
The last WMD that shouldn't be ignored is the Electromagnetic bomb or EMP. Still a recently new WMD that only a few superpower country's own its still a effective weapon, the EMP bomb may not be as destructive as a nuke or kill people like the chemical bomb but what it does do is create inner chaos. The EMP bomb shuts down and disable all electronic devices with in its blast radios that means phones computers lights, heating and military technology. Without many of these technology's people will go into a major panic and society will fall into itself, all the attacking country needs to do is pick up the pieces and claim the people.
Why we won't use them
When it comes down to the nuke, chemical and EMP bomb are all not needed. What i mean when i say this is that no one country is actually ever going to use any of these for obvious reasons, my first and foremost obvious reason is because of fear. With the devastation that follows from the devices and knowing that everyone has them now a days it would be incredibly hard to hit the fire button. For example say you are the leader of country and have a descent population, the second u hit the fire button all of your people and followers are doomed, you would also be responsible for dooming the entire world, its a lot even for say a terrorist that who don't exactly want to destroy the world rather then harm higher class people. OK so say that you can afford bunkers and you and all your people would be safe, the issue here is that you would have to wait 100+ years before even being able to venture without radiation death, by then you would be dead anyway. So your nation lived in a bunker for 100+ years and they come out well first of all there's no resources and no other country to do trading with this would make it hell for most people.
The Effects of WMD
There is a obvious and devastating effect of the WMD that have been used in history some people are still felling the effects today. The most devastating effect that I talked about already is the chemical bomb, the damaging effects from a chemical bomb.
There is a clear reason why chemical weapons were banned there effect on the human body is traumatizing. Nukes however if u live the blast have very devastating effect on the human body, even years after the explosion these effect can still linger and hurt society and cause harm to those how try to rebuild. This sickness is called radiation poisoning, get severe enough radiation poisoning and its over for you there is no hope.

Your blog was descriptive but it lacked flow. It felt like you kept jumping from one topic to another without any transition. To start, you said "J.Robert Oppenheimer who was the lead scientist of the Manhattan project". I'm interested in learning more about the Manhattan Project but you didn't explain what it was and why it was occurring. Also, what would you consider the most dangerous of all the WMD's? Another question I have is, if we know how destructive these are then why are countries still making them, and stockpiling them? But as i stated before, it is a good blog but it was lacking the flow to make it better.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting topic but, I feel that with respect to each of the types of WMB you could have gone into more depth in explaining them. I do agree with you that "no one country is actually ever going to use any of these for obvious reasons, my first and foremost obvious reason is because of fear" but, there are many case's where we have come close to a nuclear war before. Also, if nations are really that scared of launching chemical weapons on other nations then why are countries like the U.S.A and Russia stockpiling them? You also talk about the Manhattan project but you should explained more about it. Overall though it was a good blog post.
ReplyDeleteGood description of the types of WMD, but lacks historical context. More a science/tech paper than history paper, but you didn't relate it to that unit either.
ReplyDeleteAlthough you have listed resources in your works cited, you didn't cite any information, so I'm led to believe this was mostly you common knowledge or bias when you started.
